KID ROCK Slams Former Publishing Company
January 27, 2005KID ROCK announced that he is parting ways with his publishing company on Wednesday (Jan. 26). The singer issued a press release stating that he completed his obligations to Warner Chappell's BMI affiliated publishing company, Warner Tamerlane and preferred to partner with a company "more interested in music than IPOs."
"We've had a great run, and we'll miss many of the individuals at Warner's publishing company," Rock said. "We wish them all the best."
Rock said his 2004 tour received "little or no support" from the company and he "felt it was time to move his new projects forward with new partners.
"Labels like Atlantic and Warner Chappell aren't the great music labels they used to be. They're just businesses now," Rock told The Associated Press Wednesday night.
"I've been fortunate to make a lot of money and to have a great fan base, so now my focus is on just making music."
Rock said he is still under contract with Warner for three more albums.
"Pending their attitude," he added.
The 34-year-old Rock — born Bob Ritchie — was a Detroit-area hip-hop DJ when he broke through with 1998's "Devil Without a Cause", which successfully married hard rock beats with rap lyrics. "Devil" sold 10 million copies, and his next studio effort, 2001's "Cocky", sold 4 million.
His most recent studio effort was 2003's "Kid Rock".
